About the course

The doctoral degree program in music education and music therapy emphasize the preparation of music administrators, teachers, therapists, and researchers who are able to think abstractly, generalize knowledge, carry on research and apply research results to their areas of specialization, and communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Additional scholarly studies are recommended in appropriate fields in social sciences, humanities, arts, education, and health, among others.

Entry requirements for University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.00.

　　Applicants interested in doctoral level study must hold a master's degree in an appropriate field of study. For the Ph.D. in music education/therapy, applicants must also have documentation of at least 3 years of teaching experience or at least 3,500 hours of clinical experience.

　　The music education/music therapy Ph.D. requires original papers (e.g. research or professional papers) and documentation of at least 3 years of teaching experience or at least 3,500 hours of clinical experience. An interview is also required.

　　International applicants must submit score(s) from one of the following tests:
