Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering - Materials Processing

About the course

Materials processing is about the transformation of raw materials into useful products. It plays a central role in the large-scale manufacturing of coatings, films, fibers, and discrete objects that exhibit novel electrical, mechanical, thermal, and optical properties. These materials are central to the fabrication of modern electronic, optical, and biomedical devices. Materials processing operations are often dominated by nonequilibrium and nonlinear phenomena such as fluid flow, heat transfer, diffusion, and phase transformation. Research in materials processing is inherently interdisciplinary and forms a natural bridge between basic and applied science and engineering. CEMS faculty are working on a variety of topics in materials processing in the areas of coating and printing processes, polymer processing, and crystal growth.
