About the course

One of the strengths of the faculty in the Department of Horticultural Science is the wide array of commodity specific expertise in the area of production. This enables our faculty to bridge between applied research and delivery of that knowledge to the industry.

　　Once obtained, the PhD degree represents the ability of the recipient to conduct original research and scholarly work at the highest level without supervision. As stated in the NCSU Graduate Catalog, ?The degree is not granted simply upon completion of a stated amount of course work, but rather upon demonstration by the student of a comprehensive knowledge and high attainment in scholarship in a specialized field of study. The student must demonstrate this ability by writing a dissertation reporting the results of an original investigation and by passing a series of comprehensive examinations in the field of specialization and related areas of knowledge.? o be admitted to the PhD program, you must have a BS and MS degrees from accredited institution(s). How to apply

Entry requirements for North Carolina State University - Raleigh

IELTS Academic-6.5 or higher (minimum of 6.5 in each sub score)

　　TOEFL IBT-80 or higher (minimum of 18 in each sub score)

　　TOEFL Paper Based-550 or higher.

　　To be considered for admission in full graduate standing, applicants must have:

　　(a) a four-year bachelor?s degree (or equivalent) from a regionally accredited college or university.Horticultural Science or Landscape Horticulture courses (in your area of interest). Exceptions to standard accreditation may be granted for applicants with international degrees, including applicants with three-year degrees from institutions in Europe participating in the Bologna Process.

　　(b) a GPA of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) in their undergraduate degrees.

　　Background courses (calculus, physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry)

　　Biology courses (botany, plant pathology, entomology, soils, genetics, biochemistry, plant physiology)

　　Horticultural Science or Landscape Horticulture courses (in your area of interest)

　　GPA of 3.0 or better

　　TOEFL scores of 80 or better (internet exam), 213 or better (computer exam), and 550 or better (paper exam) for those with non-native English

　　Three letters of recommendation from instructors or supervisors
