About the course

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering offers the ABET-accredited bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. We also offer the master of science, and doctor of philosophy degrees in chemical engineering. Faculty in CBE also participate in the interdisciplinary graduate programs offering the MS and PhD in Biomedical Engineering (BME) and in Nanoscience and Microsystems Engineering (NSME). Chemical engineers have long played key roles in a diverse set of industries that include petroleum, food, pharmaceuticals, artificial fibers, petrochemicals, plastics and ceramics. In these areas, chemical engineers design and develop the processes for large-scale manufacturing that result in affordable products that are essential to our way of life. Chemical engineers are on the forefront of rapidly developing areas that include biotechnology and biomedicine, semiconductor manufacturing and data storage devices, and advanced materials with precisely-controlled microstructures. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of New Mexico

Grade Point Average (GPA): An undergraduate baccalaureate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) over the last two undergraduate years in science, math, and engineering courses.

  GRE General Exam Scores: Official GRE scores sent sent directly from the testing center to UNM are required. While there is no minimum GRE, competitive applicants earn a Quantative score of approximately 160.

  Language Skills for International Students: International students must achieve a minimum score on the TOEFL of 550 on the paper exam, 213 on the computer exam, or 79-80 on the internet-based test, a score of 6.5 on the IELTS

  Letter of intent that summarizes your qualifications, professional goals, and indicates the area of chemical engineering which you want to pursue.
