About the course
Optics and Photonics involves the study of lasers, optics, and holography.The field of optics and photonics involves the study of lasers, optical data processing, nonlinear optics, optical communications, optical computing, optical data storage, optical system design and holography. These are the fundamental enabling technologies for future high-speed communication systems including high performance telecommunication and data communication networks. ECE offers its graduate students on-going opportunities to work as Graduate Research Assistants or Graduate Teaching Assistants. How to apply
Entry requirements for Georgia Institute of Technology
Most students who are accepted into the School of ECE's graduate program have a degree in electrical and/or computer engineering. Applicants with degrees in other engineering disciplines, computer science, mathematics, or the physical sciences are also eligible to apply. Qualified applicants with degrees in disciplines other than electrical and/or computer engineering are encouraged to take undergraduate ECE courses as prerequisites before enrolling in ECE graduate courses. Persons with engineering technology (EET) degrees or persons with non-engineering degrees not mentioned above must first earn a bachelor's or master's of science degree in one of the disciplines listed above before applying to our graduate program.
Students with bachelor's of science or master's of science degrees in one of the disciplines listed above with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 from a recognized institute of higher education are eligible to apply for admission. The GRE is required of all applicants. There is no exemption for this policy under any circumstances. All applicants must submit scores for the following three parts: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing. Official GRE Scores. Transcript (unofficial or official) for eligible degrees (only Physics, Computer Science, and all Engineering fields). Official transcripts are welcomed but are only submitted if an acceptance has been offered. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation. The required minimum total score on the exams are: The internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, with minimum section scores of 19 or higher on each skill area, The paper-based TOEFL exam = 577, IELTS exam - Overall score minimum of 7, with minimum section scores for reading 6.5, listening 6.5, speaking 6.5 and writing 5.5.
