About the course
We are studying the elemental, molecular, and isotopic composition (in particular, the clumped-isotope composition) of gases in Earth’s atmosphere. We study the present and the past (via ice cores) from sea-level to the stratosphere. Our primary goals are to understand atmospheric mixing timescales, global trends in atmospheric chemistry and atmospheric pollution, anthropogenic carbon dioxide, the effects of biogeochemical processes on atmospheric composition, and the physics and chemistry of air-sea exchange. We are also interested in the evolution of atmospheric composition over very long timescales (millions to billions of years), on Earth and other planetary bodies.
