About the course
Research on marine systems includes physical, chemical and biological and geological oceanography and investigation of coastal-zone processes and systems, as well as chemical and biological ecology of marine environments. In addition to research capabilities located on the Georgia Tech campus, faculty and students have the opportunity to conduct research programs at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in Savannah, GA, and is a unit of the University System of Georgia. Existing programs include physical and biological modeling, sensor development, field studies, remote sensing and paleoceanography. Research is conducted in both the coastal zone and open ocean, and current regional studies include the California coastal ocean, Indian Ocean, tropical Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska, Labrador Sea, Gulf of Mexico, South China Sea and the Arctic Ocean. How to apply
Entry requirements for Georgia Institute of Technology
Applications are encouraged from students having a B.S. or M.S. in any field of geophysical or environmental science, including atmospheric science, oceanography, geophysics, and geology. Applicants with degrees in physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and computer science are particularly encouraged. Applications from other fields will be considered as long as the student as adequate technical background (in math, physics, and/or chemistry) for the discipline of interest. Grade Point Average (GPA): TThe average undergraduate GPA scores for those beginning their enrollment in the School of EAS in 2006 were: Master's students: 3.20, Doctoral students: 3.40 (on a 4-point scale). An applicant is rarely admitted with a GPA below 3.0. For international students whose native language is not English, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required. The minimum acceptable score on the original computer-based TOEFL is 213, and 90 for the current version of the TOEFL. Paper-based test scores are still accepted, the minimum score is 570.
