About the course

Our doctoral students are supported by a large group of core and affiliated faculty in Comparative Literature. Our faculty hold cross-appointments with the departments of East Asian Languages and Cultures, English, French and Italian, German and Russian, Middle East/South Asian Languages, and Religious Studies. The program actively collaborates with interdisciplinary programs in critical theory, the digital humanities, science and technology studies, cinema and media, and performance studies. We work ly with our students to ensure they get the intellectual and professional training needed to succeed in their careers. The program mentors graduate students as both teachers and emerging scholars, and we have a strong placement record both within and outside the academy.

　　The Designated Emphasis (DE) in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies (WRaCS) offers PhD students the opportunity to prepare for leadership roles in writing research, teaching, and program administration. This DE provides both a theoretical and practical knowledge of writing instruction, program administration and research. Developing pedagogical strategies and assessment programs which respond to local needs have applications for graduate students interested in researching student writing in both secondary and postsecondary environments. Entry requirements for University of California - Davis

Statement of Purpose, and the Personal History and Diversity Statement, 3 Letters of Recommendation, 1-2 research or term papers written for English courses. The total should not exceed 30 pages excluding images and bibliography , GRE scores from the General Test taken within the last 5 years. Applicants must submit official TOEFL or IELTS examination scores unless they have earned or will be earning a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from either: A regionally accredited U.S. college or university where English is the sole language ofinstruction, OR A foreign college or university which provides instruction solely in English (UC Davis Graduate Studies must review and approve requests made on this basis
