About the course
Programs for the Doctor of Philosophy degree, based on a broad and thorough undergraduate program, emphasize study and original research in one of the following areas: analytical, chemical education, inorganic, organic and physical. Numerous cross?disciplinary research opportunities involving, for example, biochemistry or the cyclotron laboratory, are also available. The MSU Chemistry Department offers an exciting range of educational opportunities, with strengths in both the fundamental area of the discipline, and in significant new areas and applications. The Department of Chemistry offers a Ph.D. as the major graduate degree, although a small number of students are admitted to the M.S. degree program. Graduate-level course work and research opportunities are available in physical, organic, inorganic, and analytical chemistry as well as in a substantial number of cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary areas such as polymers, materials, surface science, spectroscopy, theoretical chemistry, and biological chemistry.
