About the course

The Chemistry Ph.D. Program at Northwestern offers innovative chemistry, with unique strengths at the interfaces of materials science, catalysis, environmental sciences, molecular and cell biology, nanotechnology, and biomedical research. Our approximately 40 faculty include joint appointees from Physics, Molecular Biosciences, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science.

　　Our program is designed with the goal to provide our students with a firm foundation of chemical knowledge and exposure to cutting edge research projects with societal importance. In addition to the traditional divisions of Inorganic, Organic, and Physical, we also offer integrated programs in Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry of Life Processes, and Chemistry of Materials. How to apply

Entry requirements for Northwestern University

Official Transcript(s) - While completing your online application, you will be required to submit one scanned copy of your transcript from each school you have attended. Scanned transcripts should be exact duplicates of the transcripts issued by your institution (bearing the institution’s seal). Three separate letters of recommendation are required. All letters of recommendation can be uploaded by the NU application software. GRE Scores. For the TOEFL, you must score 600 or higher on the paper-based test, 250 or higher on the computer-based test, 100 or higher on the internet based test. For the IELTS, you must receive a score of 7.0 or higher. Providing official transcripts verifying an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year institution or equivalent, where the language of instruction is English. Providing official transcripts verifying a graduate degree from an accredited institution where the language of instruction is English.
