About the course

The Ph.D. in Chemistry at Howard?s Graduate School provides rigorous chemistry research training and real-world applications. Our graduates have landed positions in industry, working for companies such as Intel, SC Johnson, Bayer Material Science, Exxon Mobil, and Merck, and senior-level positions at federal agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Others are employed as faculty and postdoctoral fellows at universities and colleges such as Alabama A&M University, Bowie State University, Sacramento City College, and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Our program welcomes applicants with various backgrounds, including environmental engineering, biomedical sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and atmospheric sciences, among other fields. As a doctoral student in our program, you?ll gain a solid foundation in research design and analytical instrumentation as well as practical training in chemical laboratory and computational techniques. How to apply

Entry requirements for Howard University

The applicant's official transcripts.

　　Applicants with a B.A. or B.Sc. from an accredited university and a minimum average of 3.0 are eligible for admission into the MS degree program. Applicants with a B.A. or B.Sc. degree who wish to do a Ph.D. must first complete the MS degree program prior to applying for the Ph.D.

　　Applicants with an MS. degree from an accredited university and a minimum average of 3.5 are eligible for admission into the Ph.D. degree program.

　　TOEFL Scores (Minimum computer-based score of 213 is required and only official score reports are accepted within 2 years of the test date)

　　Three letters of recommendation, preferably from members of the academic community familiar with the applicant's academic performance.

　　An autobiographical sketch and statement of purpose indicating his/her desire to join the graduate program in the department of chemistry.

　　TheGraduate Record Examination (GRE) score.

　　TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) a score of 90 on the Internet base (IBT) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Official TOEFL scores must be sent directly from ETS. The TOEFL test is only waived if the applicant has received a degree in the U.S. In lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
