About the course

Our program offers strong interdisciplinary training across a spectrum of biomedically-related translational areas that arose from the merger of three strong PhD programs: Biochemistry, Physiology and Cell Biology. The first year serves as an umbrella program leading to training in one of three concentrations: Structural & Chemical Biology, Cell & Developmental Biology, and Cancer Biology.

　　Each concentration features a curriculum designed to give trainees in depth knowledge while preserving a breadth of exposure to contemporary research approaches in biomedical science. Our students focus on understanding of the cellular pathways, molecular signaling networks and systems-based mechanisms that govern human development and disease, leading to the generation of innovative new therapies.

　　Students carry out four laboratory rotations and complete coursework in the first year of training. They select their thesis advisor at the end of the first year and confirm their specialization as they enter year two of training. In addition to the thesis advisor, each student is guided by a thesis committee that is formed early in training and interacts frequently with the student.
