A student is admitted to the biology (ecology-track) PhD program provided he/she meets the entrance requirements and has been accepted as a dissertation advisee by an ecology faculty member.
Listed below are the requirements which must be fulfilled for the PhD degree. The timeline spelled out in this document needs to be followed ly in order to successfully complete this degree program within four years. Progress reports will be filed by the student and endorsed by the student?s dissertation advisor each semester. The Graduate Affairs Committee will evaluate these reports each semester. Entry requirements for University of Toledo
Students are admitted to the Ph.D. program on the basis of their potential ability to make a unique and substantial scientific contribution to the field of ecology. Acceptance by a faculty research adviser is required for admission to the Ph.D. program. All applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their statement of educational and career objectives, previous research and teaching experience, published papers, university grade point average (GPA), three letters of recommendation and other evidence of academic performance, such as previous research experience, published papers or abstracts. Two categories of applicants will be considered: 1) those with a M.S. degree from an accredited university and 2) those with a BS (BA) from an accredited university and outstanding academic performance and proven research potential. International students with a native language other than English must submit their results for either the internet-based version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL-iBT). This test assesses spoken English as well as other as other aspects of the language. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score for admission is 213 on the computer-based test (or 550 on the paper-based version) but to be considered for financial aid minimum scores of at least 250 (computer-based, or 600 paper-based) on the TOEFL. TOEFL IBT equal to 80 or above, IELTS equal to 6.5 or above
