About the course
The Ph.D. in Biology at Howard's Graduate School has core strengths in two principal areas of research specialization: The Cellular and Molecular Biology area incorporates research programs in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, physiology, developmental biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics. The Ecological, Environmental, and Systematic Biology area includes research programs in ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental biology, conservation biology, and organismal biology. Our graduates are now successfully pursuing research-related careers at top universities and across private industry and government sectors. As a doctoral student in Biology, you?ll gain a solid foundation in biological concepts and practical training in experimental design, statistical analyses, and lab/field observation. How to apply
Entry requirements for Howard University
1. The applicant's official transcripts. 2. Letters of recommendation, preferably from members of the academic community familiar with the applicant's academic performance. 3. Review of the following documents submitted with the application: current CV/Resume, a brief personal statement and an application essay. 4. Availability of graduate positions and support in the department. 5. Admission to the Ph.D. Program requires prior agreement of a Graduate Faculty member to act as the student?s advisor in the Department. Therefore, applicants are strongly advised to contact directly those faculty members with whom they are interested in working. A GPA of 2.8 or higher is required for admission. Applicants with GPAs between 2.8 to 3.0 may be admitted provisionally. Applicants are required to submit scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), although there is no minimum criterion for admission.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) a score of 90 on the Internet base (IBT) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Official TOEFL scores must be sent directly from ETS. The TOEFL test is only waived if the applicant has received a degree in the U.S. In lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
