About the course
The Astronomy Department at Illinois, in collaboration with the Physics Department, offers graduate students in astronomy and astrophysics strong training in a wide range of areas related to science and engineering. Students also have ready access to observing and computing facilities for their dissertation research, and are guided by distinguished faculty.In collaboration with Computational Science & Engineering, the Department of Astronomy offers a CSE Option in the Ph.D. degree program. Students electing the CSE Option are expected to satisfy all regular requirements for graduate study in ASTR. A student will normally be able to satisfy the requirements for the CSE Option by taking elective courses within the ASTR graduate program.

To graduate with the CSE Option, the following additional requirements must be satisfied: the student must take eight hours of course work from CSE core courses, and eight additional hours of course work must be from an approved list of CSE and other computational courses.
