About the course

UCSC is a world leader in astrophysics education, providing an intellectually rich, vibrant, and challenging graduate student program. The program emphasizes forefront astrophysics research as the main training tool to prepare and support its students for a range of career options. We currently enroll approximately 40 graduate students working towards the Ph.D. degree. Students benefit from the low student-faculty ratio, extensive research opportunities, and course offerings that cover both theoretical and observational aspects of astronomy. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of California - Santa Cruz

To be considered for admission to the Santa Cruz campus of the University of California:

　　one must have received a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited university prior to the quarter for which admission is sought

　　Applicants with a three-year Bachelor’s Degree must also hold a post graduate diploma, Master’s Degree, or a higher degree.

　　and have at least a B average in last two years of undergraduate coursework.

　　Paper-based TOEFL minimum acceptable scores:550,Internet-based TOEFL minimum acceptable scores: 83,IELTS minimum acceptable score: 7.0.

　　A research background in astrophysics is very helpful, but research experience in any field is valuable. We look for strong letters of recommendation and read the Statement of Purpose and Personal History Statement carefully.
