About the course

Aesthetic Theory is generally considered a subcategory of philosophy or more precisely of value theory. Yet, within the framework of Architectural History and Theory the question of aesthetics is above all one of interiority, that is, one that escapes all other disciplines. To be sure, major historical and theoretical figures have played crucial roles in the ongoing debates concerning aesthetics, however, these disciplines by themselves have proved unable to answer the central questions. Research into Gothic figuration techniques, or the morphological theories of Goethe or those of Vitruvius, or even into the work of Ruskin and Morris, have shown us again and again that internal rules drive design without any proper external references. Entry requirements for Georgia Institute of Technology

You will be asked to provide the email contact information for 3 recommenders. Your recommenders will receive an automated email asking that they complete an online letter of recommendation for you. A copy of your transcript from each college attended since high school to be uploaded with your application (These may be unofficial copies. If admitted, you will be required to provide official copies.). Scores of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose first language is other than English(online). The paper-based minimum is 577 and internet-based is 90, with minimum section scores of 19 or higher on each skill area. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (online). The program looks for GRE scores of 600 or better (on each of the general tests unless a student’s record documents substantial professional or scholarly achievement as evidence of exceptional ability). IELTS exam - Overall score minimum of 7, with minimum section scores for reading 6.5, listening 6.5, speaking 6.5 and writing 5.5.
