About the course
Production management is an emphasis area that is typcially incorporated into a traditional discipline area. Students who choose production management as an emphasis area investigate problems that involve applied research within their particular discipline (genetics, nutrition, physiology). Some examples of research in the production management area include assessment of the usefulness of early pregnancy detection by real-time ultrasonograhpy in swine, the effectiveness specific feed additives on growth and nutrient utilization of beef steers or the effect of grazing-based dairy cattle management on the onset of puberty in heifers. A Ph.D. in Animal Science symbolizes a student?s ability to conduct high-level original research and scholarly work without supervision. The degree is granted upon the student?s demonstration of a comprehensive knowledge and scholarship in a specialized field of study. The student is required to write a dissertation reporting the results of an original investigation, pass a series of preliminary comprehensive examinations in the field of specialization and related areas of knowledge, and successfully defend the dissertation. The Department of Animal Science offers top-tier teaching, research and extension programs that help our faculty and students address critical issues facing the animal industry ? here and around the world. We develop knowledge that improves the efficiency and sustainability of animal agriculture, biomedical science and animal management. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships
