The Biomedical Science Program of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine offers courses of study leading to the Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Science with concentrations in cardiovascular sciences, cellular, molecular and chemical biology, immunology, inflammation and infectious diseases, neuroscience and pharmaceutical sciences. The program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in research in the life sciences. How to apply

Entry requirements for East Tennessee State University

All applications for admission to the Ph.D. program will be reviewed by the Recruitment and Admissions Subcommittee of the Biomedical Science Program. Admission decisions are made on the basis of an overall evaluation of the applicant?s ability to complete advanced study in Biomedical Science. Particular attention is paid to the applicant?s cumulative GPA, performance in physical science and natural sciences courses, scores for the Graduate Record Examination and letters of recommendation. A personal interview may be required.

  GPA - International applicants: 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

  Graduate students whose native language is not English must submit one of the following: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Score of 79 (Internet-Based), Score of 550 (Paper-based). International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Score of 6.5.
