About the course

The Doctor of Musical Arts degree is a 45-hour program oriented toward professional practice in music emphasizing the creation or performance of musical works and the application and transmission of knowledge about musical works. Fields of specialization are in performance, conducting, composition, and piano pedagogy. A nondissertation program, the degree culminates in four doctoral performance projects which are designed to suit the professional interests and aspirations of the student. The degree consists of 45 hours of coursework, a 3-part qualifying examination, and four performance or pedagogy projects which take the place of a dissertation. How to apply

Entry requirements for Texas Tech University

To be accepted into one of the Masters or Doctoral Degree programs in music, the applicant must be approved by the School of Music and admitted by the Texas Tech Graduate School.

  A complete curriculum vitae showing your training and experience.

  A personal statement of professional goals and aspirations.

  Sample of written work, such as term paper, master's thesis, published article, etc.

  Letters of recommendation (2-3) are required.

  Additional audio/video materials will be required for specific degree programs, to be uploaded under Optional Materials within the application system.

  A personal interview or audition before the appropriate divisional faculty is required. Performance or teaching videos/links and digital copies of written work are required before a personal audition or interview will be schedule. If travel to Texas Tech University is not an option, telephone interviews or online interviews may be an option.

  TOEFL - The minimum TOEFL score required is 550 (paper-based version) or 79 (internet-based version).

  IELTS - The minimum IELTS required score is an overall band score of 6.5 on the Academic version
