About the course

The Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Performance, with concentrations in brass, conducting, percussion, piano, strings, voice, and woodwinds, is intended for those musicians planning to work at the most advanced academic and professional levels of music.

  Learning Outcomes

  Students graduating from the UNLV School of Music with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree will:

  Perform or conduct and rehearse in an area of specialization at the highest level of professional practice.

  Demonstrate historical and theoretical knowledge supportive of the development of individualized interpretations within a full range of musical styles.

  Display a thorough understanding of the history of their instrument or conducting medium and a comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire and literature specific to the area of specialization.

  Demonstrate a knowledge of general bibliographical resources in music and research skills appropriate to the area of specialization, and the ability to present and defend the results of scholarly research.

How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Nevada

Students applying for admission to the Doctor of Musical Arts degree program must make application through the Graduate College. There are different deadlines for international students, and for students who wish to apply for assistantships, which are also found on the Graduate College website. In addition to submitting an application and transcripts of all college-level work to the Graduate College, prospective students must have a Master's degree in music from a NASM accredited institution.

  An overall undergraduate GPA and master's GPA of at least 2.75 (or 3.00 in the last two years of undergraduate study).

  An undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00 in music.

  TOEFL (Internet-based) - Minimum score: 80, Paper‐based: Total minimum score 550, (Computer-based) Minimum score - 213. IETLS - Minimum score: 6.5.
