About the course
With a degree in English, you can apply your skills in writing, research and analysis in a wide variety of professional settings. English majors are well-prepared for advanced study and careers in education, law, library and information science, medical professions, public relations, and publishing. You also have the opportunity to prepare for a career in teaching English at the secondary level with the Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP). The Department of English offers a secondary education major in English (STEP). The School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) offer a fifth-year secondary teacher education program (STEP) leading to recommendation for Michigan secondary standard teacher certification.
