About the course
This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. On successful completion of this course, students would receive Certificate IV in Disability qualification. This course will prepare you to start, or advance a rewarding career in the disability, aged care, health, or community care sector. Graduates would have gained skills and knowledge to fulfil the functions of senior, disability support worker and care facilitator, plus advanced skills for use in more senior roles. These include how to recognise healthy bodies, and work safely and meet the individual support needs of your clients. Additionally, you will learn to facilitate the empowerment, community participation, and ongoing skills development of people with disabilities. Beyond that, and more broadly you will gain knowledge of the health and community care sectors, and how to coordinate services for individuals with disabilities and their families.
