About the course

The opera program at the Yale School of Music offers rigorous career training through practical studies in the art of opera performance. In addition to their private voice lessons and coachings in operatic and song literature, opera students also study languages, style, acting, body movement, and general stage skills. Weekly seminars and voice classes focus on diction, interpretation, and effective communication. The program also regularly presents master classes with visiting artists. The program stages several productions each year, usually two fully staged productions and two evenings of staged scenes in costume. These have alternated between featuring full orchestra, chamber ensemble and/or collaborative piano. Repertoire is chosen after selecting each year’s singers.
