About the course
This course is for people who are interested in working in the Disability sector to support people with disability in residential and / or community settings. As an Individual Support Worker, you will be able to make a real difference in people’s everyday lives, supporting them to maintain their independence and standard of living. This is a highly practical course, including work placements in community support, supported independent living (SIL) and community access programs. Graduates will be provided with the knowledge and skills to carry out activities related to maintaining and maximising the independence and wellbeing of people with disability. Students will learn the importance of providing choice and control for people with disability as means to empower and enable independent living skills. Students will learn specialist skills to support people with complex communication needs and about best practice approaches in skill development and behavioural support. This qualification would suit people who value supporting and working with people with disability and who have an interest in enhancing and empowering people with disability to live their best life.
