About the course

The hands-on Bachelor of Visual Arts will allow you to develop the conceptual, theoretical, and technical skills you will need to succeed as a practising artist or in a range of careers in the creative industries.

  For students who want to become artists, curators, and art writers active in national and international visual culture.

  The Bachelor of Visual Arts is an undergraduate degree that will provide you with the conceptual, theoretical and technical skills you will need to succeed as a practising artist or in a range of careers in the creative industries.

  You will study core studio units to develop your creative practice through projects designed to expand your awareness of the potentialities of contemporary art practice and units in art history.

How to apply

Entry requirements for The University of Sydney

Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

  a secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.

  applicants are required to submit a portfolio of their artwork. You may submit your portfolio electronically as follows:

  UAC applicants – submit your portfolio electronically to SCA by the application deadline.

  Direct applicants – upload your portfolio as part of your online application to the University by the application deadline.

  You will need to include a short statement of between 200 and 250 words addressing one of the more developed projects in your portfolio. Find out more about portfolio requirements. Late submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  IELTS score of A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band

  Toefl Pbt - A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing

  Toefl ibt - A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
