About the course

The Speech Communication major consists of 48 credits of course work which focuses on aspects of human communication developed around two themes: relational communication and rhetoric.

　　Within the area of relational communication, students can study organizational, small group, health, family, and intercultural communication, along with courses in mediation and conflict management. Within the area of rhetoric, students can study argumentation, persuasion, propaganda, visual rhetoric, social movements, pop culture, media criticism, and political campaigns.

　　Speech Communication graduates have found employment in a variety of fields that emphasize communication: public relations, training and development, education, nonprofit corporation development, mediation and conflict management, politics, advertising, and sales and management opportunities.
