About the course

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science (NFSC) in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources offers two undergraduate majors for students who would like to pursue challenging careers in the growing field of food and nutrition. The program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Fermentation Science and Nutrition and Food Science with three options for students interested in nutritional science, food science, and dietetics. The Nutritional Science major (formerly known as Human Nutrition and Foods) focuses on the physiological and biological aspects of foods and nutrients. Opportunities for nutritional scientists include research positions in laboratories, hospitals, and industry. This major prepares students for graduate study. The program also meets premedical and pre-dental requirements, and many students go on to professional schools. It is not necessary to complete an additional application form in order to be accepted into the Nutritional Science program. On their application to The University of Maryland, both freshman and transfer students should simply declare their major as Nutritional Science. The Nutritional Science program code for your application is 1306H. Students who are enrolled in other majors at the University of Maryland should contact the department for information about changing their major to Nutritional Science. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Maryland - College Park

Your institution must submit an official copy of your high school transcripts listing all courses you have completed from all schools attended. Where appropriate, include official results and certificates of completion from national secondary school examinations such as GCSE/GCE, CBSE national and regional, CXC/CSEC and WAEC. Transcripts must be sent in the native language along with a certified English translation. The SAT or the ACT is required. If neither the SAT nor the ACT is available in your country, submit a written request for a waiver of this requirement with your application. Applicants who don’t submit some form of official standardized testing may be at a competitive disadvantage.
