Bachelor of Science in Molecular Engineering - Chemical and Soft Materials Engineering

About the course

Engineering is the science of solving complex technological problems and, in the case of molecular engineering, applying molecular-level science to the design of advanced devices, processes, and technologies. The Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) is at the forefront of emerging approaches to address fundamental societal challenges in such areas as quantum engineering, biotechnology and immunoengineering, advanced materials, energy storage, and a clean global water supply. The BS degree in Molecular Engineering offers undergraduates a cutting-edge engineering curriculum built on a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Courses in the major are designed to develop quantitative reasoning and problem-solving skills, to introduce engineering analysis of biological, chemical, and physical systems, and to address open-ended technological questions across a spectrum of disciplines. The aim is to introduce invention and design, along with inquiry and discovery, as fruitful and complementary intellectual activities. The program prepares undergraduates for leadership roles in a technology-driven society. Graduates will be positioned to follow traditional engineering paths in research, technology development, and manufacturing, or to pursue further postgraduate study in such fields as engineering, science, medicine, business, or law. Other graduates may successfully leverage the quantitative and problem-solving skills gained in their training as engineers towards careers in technical and management consulting, finance, public policy, or entrepreneurship. How to apply

Entry requirements for University of Chicago

The University of Chicago only admits students who have demonstrated a superior level of English language competence: we strongly recommend a score of 100 or higher on the Internet-Based TOEFL or 600 or higher on the Paper-Based TOEFL. Minimum required scores on the IELTS (students must take the Academic test, not the General Training test) are an overall score of 7, with subscores of 7 each Ask your secondary school counselor to complete the Secondary School Report and to submit it along with an official transcript. The Secondary School Report provides us with an overview of your high school academic record. An official transcript detailing your coursework and grades over your entire high school career should be sent from your high school. In reading your application, your transcript will serve as a roadmap of your academic path in high school. We will be looking at your academic record across all four years of high school, primarily to see that you have challenged yourself productively in your course selection and done well in those courses. Your transcript is considered in the context of your high school.
