About the course

Majors choose one of three different degree plans. Students choosing the Consumer Affairs major with a concentration in personal financial management study personal financial decision making, consumer law, financial counseling, the role of the consumer in the economy and they select a minor. Students prepare for careers in financial services for individuals and families, financial counseling, consumer advocacy, or government agencies. The concentration in Family and Consumer Sciences offers students the opportunity to take courses from all areas of Family and Consumer Sciences and select a minor. Graduates seek employment in business, the extension service, and community agencies. The teacher certification, approved by the Texas Education Agency, certifies graduates to teach Family and Consumer Sciences in 6-12th grades. Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Concentration is a broad program including preparation in specific subject matter areas of family and consumer sciences and teaching. FCS Teacher focus on teaching child development, families, communications, food and nutrition, personal finances, housing, fashion and textiles in middle and high schools. How to apply

Entry requirements for Texas State University

An International Baccalaureate grade of 4 or higher in English A1 or A2 at the Higher Level or Standard Level or English B at the Higher Level is required for regular admission (predicted or actual).Graduation from a U.S. high school and completion three (3) full years of regular English (non-ESL) course work with a grade point average of 2.5 in those courses. Students who have attended at least two (2) years of high school in the U.S. (at the time of application) are also expected to submit an ACT or SAT. Successful completion of at least three consecutive years of high (secondary) school, including three years of regular English with a grade of B or better.

　　Applicants must submit original academic records (or copies which have been certified by an appropriate school official) of all secondary and post-secondary course work, examination results, SAT or ACT test scores (directly from the testing center), certificates awarded, and/or diplomas.

　　Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test), or 78 total score (internet-based test) with the following 3 out of 4 minimum section scores: 19 in Reading, 19 in Listening, 19 in Speaking and 18 in Writing, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum score of 6.5 with a 6.0 in each section.

　　A certified English translation must accompany the original academic records if the originals are not in English, Freshman applicants who are, or will be, graduates of foreign secondary schools must demonstrate above average academic achievement.
