About the course
Chemistry is a science that deals with the composition, structure, reactivity, and properties of substances and of the transformations they undergo. Chemists perform experiments, conduct research, investigate and analyze techniques for basic scientific purposes, and develop new and improved products. Discoveries have sometimes resulted in the creation of entirely new industries: for example, the polymers and synthetic textile fibers industries, and more recently nanotechnology. Many chemists specialize in the product or process of a particular industry, such as agriculture, food, petroleum, plastics and rubber. The department offers instruction leading to the baccalaureate degree in Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry (including the American Chemical Society certification) for students planning either careers in the chemical industry, a pre-health profession, medical school or graduate work. How to apply
Entry requirements for Florida State University
All credentials from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation agency to include a U.S. equivalent grade point average. We recommend a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. All academic records must be issued in the native language and be accompanied by a certified English translation. All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required. We require freshman applicants to submit at least one ACT and/or SAT test score to be considered for admission. Florida State does not require the optional ACT writing score or the optional SAT essay. We encourage applicants to take both the ACT and SAT, and to attempt each exam more than one time to earn the highest possible score. Internet based TOEFL (IBTOEFL): 80, Paper based TOEFL (TOEFL): 550, International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5.
