About the course

The secondary education program prepares candidates to teach in grades six through twelve (high schools, junior high schools, and middle schools). Secondary teachers prepare to teach in one or more content areas. Critical and analytical thinking, careful and thoughtful communication, and a desire to explore, question, and solve problems are promoted in the secondary education major. Education is a career in which graduates can find the satisfaction of helping young people learn. Teachers are now in high demand and have the ability to make a large impact on many lives. Employment opportunities are enhanced by willingness to consider teaching at several grade levels and by strong subject preparation. In addition to being classroom teachers, education majors have the opportunity to pursue careers as coaches, administrators, or education directors. Teachers play a vital role in our society because they train tomorrow's leaders.

　　Kansas State University offers an outstanding program providing future music educators with a course of studies focused on authentic experiences reflective of the practice of music teaching. Students are placed in the schools each semester for observation or participation. Course content and activities provide students experiences that will build a foundation for success in teaching music. Through course work, performance opportunities, work in the schools, and careful mentoring students graduate with confidence in their ability to teach. How to apply

Entry requirements for Kansas State University

High school curriculum from an accredited secondary school.

　　Transcripts for all previous academic coursework must be submitted. This includes high school (secondary school) transcripts, and any and all university, college, vocational, community college, or technical coursework beyond the secondary level.

　　Minimum 2.5 GPA (Grade Point Average) on a 4.0 scale in high school coursework.
