About the course

Students within the Geology program at Montana State learn to apply the principles of chemistry, physics and mathematics to the study of the Earth?s surface and interior. Coursework spans core topics in earth sciences and include subjects such as mineralogy, sedimentation and stratigraphy, structural geology, global tectonics and sedimentary petrology. In addition to this, Geology students also gain important skills in field methodology and take a capstone field geology course prior to graduation. How to apply

Entry requirements for Montana State University

Graduation from a high school accredited by the state accrediting agency, or a passing score on an approved high school equivalency exam such as HiSET or GED. Students who complete their secondary education through home schooling or at unaccredited secondary schools may be admitted as long as they have satisfactorily performed on the ACT or SAT test and provide a final high school transcript prior to enrollment at MSU. Freshmen will be considered for admission on the basis of their secondary school record and their English proficiency. Applicants who can prove their English language proficiency and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5/4.0 on a U.S. scale will qualify for admission. Obtaining a minimum required score on an English Proficiency examination: Internet-based TOEFL test (iBT) – 71, Paper-based TOEFL test (PBT) – 525, IELTS - 6.0
