About the course

The Deaf Studies program at Boston University affords students the opportunity to develop insights into, and genuine appreciation for, the culture, contributions, and contemporary issues related to Deaf people in the United States.

　　Learning Outcomes

　　Demonstrate proficiency in ASL as evidenced by:

　　Achieving a rating of intermediate or better on all parameters of the SLPI Interview Scale.

　　Effectively engaging in social and academic conversations in American Sign Language, both expressively and receptively, in a variety of settings (field placement, classroom/professional presentations).

　　Using and comprehending ASL texts in a variety of topics and settings (recorded (video) and face-to-face contexts).

How to apply

Entry requirements for Boston University

Students who are applying during their last year of secondary school should clearly state the name of the certificate they expect to receive and when. They should send an official school transcript with the application and send the original or certified copies of the credentials listed below when available. Admissions may request additional credentials as needed.

　　TOEFL- Students who are most competitive for admission will have a composite score of at least 90-100 and minimum scores of 20 in each section.

　　A total/overall score of 7 or higher on IELTS will also satisfy BU’s English Language proficiency requirement for all programs.
