About the course
Explore the theoretical foundations of effective communication and empower yourself to become a skillful communicator with our bachelor’s degree in communication studies. Your course of study will be hands-on, filled with practical assignments and internships, and taught by outstanding faculty in small class sizes. You can choose from concentrations in public, interpersonal, or organizational communication—each preparing you for graduate studies or a rewarding career in business, government, politics, public affairs, nonprofits, or the media.All communication studies undergraduate majors must take 21 credits of departmental core courses, including argumentation, human communication, intercultural communication, persuasion, presentational communication, and communication theory. You also must complete COMM 201 during your first semester in the department. From there, you will pick one of three concentrations in public, interpersonal, or organizational communication.Even in an increasingly impersonal digital age, interpersonal communication remains more essential than ever to help businesses and organizations run effectively. Our concentration in this area helps you understand what makes communication effective in personal relationships as well as in small groups and explores such topics as relationship development, nonverbal communication, and conflict resolution.
