Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering

About the course

Bioengineering at the Harvard School of Engineering is inherently interdisciplinary and combines faculty and research centers from across our campuses and Harvard teaching hospitals. In bioengineering we integrate fundamental engineering disciplines such as thermodynamics and fluid mechanics with the physical and life sciences while drawing on mathematics and computational sciences. This convergence allows us to undestand the operation of living systems and to design novel solutions to critical problems in medicine and biology. Bioengineers at Harvard are making advances in bioinspired robotics and computing, biomechanics and motor control, cell and tissue engineering, biomaterials and therapeutics. By leveraging our intellectual communities and world-class resources we are at the forefront of discovery and innovation. Our students and researchers collaborate with schools, centers and initiatives across the greater bioengineering community in Boston, including the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, the Broad Institute, the Center for Nanoscale Science, the Center for Brain Science, the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, the Quantitative Biology Initiative, the Martinos Center, as well as the Harvard Medical School and Chan School of Public Health. We offer graduate and undergraduate degrees and provide cutting-edge research opportunities for our students. Scholarships - View all scholarships Internships

How to apply

Entry requirements for Harvard University

School Report and high school transcript

Optional: AP or other examination results

A strong knowledge of English is essential for successful study at Harvard, including the ability to understand and express thoughts quickly and clearly. Although you are not required to take an English proficiency exam (such as the TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), you may submit scores if you wish to do so.

We require standardized test scores from either the SAT or ACT (with or without writing) and strongly recommend that you submit two SAT Subject Tests in addition. Note that a Subject Test in your native language is not considered an appropriate choice, and we discourage students from sending scores from both Math Level 1 and Math Level 2 if only submitting the results of two subject tests.

While there is no absolute test score cut-off, the Committee would be concerned that an internet based TOEFL score below 100 might indicate that the candidate does not have sufficient fluency in English to do well in classes here.
