The applied physics option is designed to extend knowledge of the principles of pure physics to the development of new technologies. Research in applied physics focuses primarily on problems of technological importance. Current areas of specialization within applied physics span a wide range of topics such as Photonics, Solid-state materials, Biophysics, Plasma-physics, and Hydrodynamics. Entry requirements for California Institute of Technology

Secondary School Report,Academic transcripts,This is a document that is sent to Caltech by your high school college counselor. TOEFL scores: Required of all international citizens unless 1) your native language is English or 2) you have studied for two or more years in a school where English is the language of instruction. The latter must be completed prior to the application deadline. We do not accept the IELTS or any other substitute for the TOEFL requirement. SAT or ACT Note: As of July 2018, Caltech no longer requires the SAT Essay or ACT Writing exam sections. Additionally, these sections will not be considered in the application review process.
