About the course
Animal science majors explore advances in animal feeding, breeding, reproduction and management techniques, as well as the health and welfare of animals. Students complete a set of core courses in breeding and genetics, nutrition, physiology and management. As a major, animal science provides flexibility, allowing academic advisers to guide students through a program of study that is consistent with their interests and goals. Scientific principles of biology and animal science are taught using horses, dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, poultry, sheep and companion animals. Students apply classroom principles to animal science labs and the teaching and research centers on campus.
Production Animal Scholars (PAS) is an academic concentration for undergraduate students who aspire to work with animals that produce food for humans in veterinary medicine or an advanced aspect of animal science. Horses and companion animals are excluded from this concentration. The PAS concentration is based strongly in science and will prepare students for many professions in science and is not limited to preparation for veterinary college.
