About the course

Begin your career as a professional performer (in an orchestra, opera, jazz ensemble, or musical theatre), with individual and ensemble tuition from our industry experts.

  This course is for musicians interested in pursuing a career as a professional performer in orchestra, opera, jazz ensemble or musical theatre.

  The Bachelor of Music (Performance) is an undergraduate specialist degree that will equip you with the skills to become a professional musical performer.

  You will complete core studies in music theory and aural skills, music analysis, history & culture studies, along with principal study units in your chosen instrument or performance area. You will also complete ensemble and performance practice culminating in a recital and a specialist project.

How to apply

Entry requirements for The University of Sydney

To gain entry, applicants will need:

  An Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or an IB or equivalent

  To make a course application to UAC (or direct to USyd for certain international students), and

  Register for an audition

  Applicants without an ATAR from the NSW Higher School Certificate may be granted admission on the basis of:

  A recognised secondary school level qualification (including overseas qualifications)

  or having successfully undertaken tertiary studies in music at or above Diploma level to the equivalent of at least one year of study

  or in a special admission category such as mature age entry

  TOEFL-IBT- A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing

  IELTS score- A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band

  TOEFL - PBT score-A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
