About the course

The Bachelor of Music in Music Studies degree leads to all-level music teacher certification in public schools. Students receive extensive training in music teaching and learning from internationally recognized teachers and scholars in music education, all of whom were distinguished K-12 music teachers before joining the Butler School. Over the course of the degree, students are provided with extensive practical field experiences working with children in their areas of specialization in public and private schools in the Austin area. Students also take lessons in their primary instrument, participate in ensembles and receive comprehensive instruction in music theory and music history. Our graduates enjoy rewarding careers as music teachers in Texas and throughout the U.S.

Graduate programs in Music & Human Learning are uniquely designed to broaden and refine the knowledge and skills of experienced educators who aspire to advanced careers as teachers and scholars in all dimensions of professional education. Students benefit from a wide variety of coursework in applied teacher training, music therapy, and piano pedagogy, as well as in the perception, cognition, psychology, and neuroscience of music.
