About the course
The College of Music is headquarters to a variety of campus orchestras, bands, choral ensembles, jazz bands, and early music and baroque ensembles, 9 world music ensembles, and numerous chamber groups, as well as the Florida State Opera and the Music Theater Program. Each year the College of Music offers some 350 concerts and productions and regularly hosts national conventions, workshops, and festivals, such as the biennial Festival of New Music. Our rich heritage is important in providing us a certain perspective about quality and an incentive to strive for continuing excellence. But the real test of our future is what we do for you, the future students who will grace our rehearsal halls, classrooms, and studios. We seek students, at all levels, who are dedicated to achieving the best for themselves in their professional preparation. We seek students who will contribute to the rich and diverse musical environment at Florida State. And we want students who will appreciate the warm and friendly personality of our College. Florida State University has been an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1930.
In the Piano program, our goal is to help students find and achieve their potential at and through the piano. The mentoring process is focused around weekly private lessons, you will also have weekly studio classes, monthly piano area concerts, duo piano lessons, chamber music coachings, lessons in accompanying both singers and instrumentalists, classes in piano literature and pedagogy, and master-classes with visiting artists. The area also holds two concerto concerts each year. We have over 240 pianos, with an exciting variety of performance instruments that includes a Fazioli and a Blüthner as well as Steinways from both New York and Hamburg in our 5 performance halls. How to apply
Entry requirements for Florida State University
All credentials from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation agency to include a U.S. equivalent grade point average. We recommend a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. All academic records must be issued in the native language and be accompanied by a certified English translation. All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required. We require freshman applicants to submit at least one ACT and/or SAT test score to be considered for admission. Florida State does not require the optional ACT writing score or the optional SAT essay. We encourage applicants to take both the ACT and SAT, and to attempt each exam more than one time to earn the highest possible score. Internet based TOEFL (IBTOEFL): 80, Paper based TOEFL (TOEFL): 550, International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5.
