About the course
The University offers a bachelor of music (BM) in performance. The program is designed for students who wish to pursue performing careers, establish private studios, or pursue graduate studies and seek teaching positions in higher education. The performance major includes required coursework in theory, music history and literature, musicianship, and performance. In addition, students choose a concentration in one of the following areas: Brass (euphonium, horn, trombone, trumpet, or tuba), Percussion, Piano, Strings (cello, violin, viola, or string bass), Voice and Winds (bassoon, clarinet, flute, oboe, or saxophone). The School of Music's size is ideal for maximum student-to-faculty interaction while still providing wide-ranging opportunities for aspiring musicians. The distinguished faculty of performers and scholars shares an uncommonly strong commitment to teaching, research, experience-based learning, and each student's career development. Each student receives a solid foundation in comprehensive, integrated musicianship by participating in performance ensembles, by taking private lessons, by attending concerts, and by studying music theory, music history and literature, piano, music technology, scoring, and conducting.
