About the course
The Blair School of Music serves as a focal point at Vanderbilt for the study of music as a human endeavor and as a performing art, currently enrolling students from over thirty-five states and multiple countries. The Bachelor of Music degree in Composition introduces serious students of music to the creative principles of structure, harmonic language, and compositional technique in a variety of styles and media, further, it fosters the all-important skills of both writing and communicating orally the meaning and value of music. Faculty teach the art of composing, of working with performers, and of developing professional careers, while simultaneously modeling myriad approaches to the contributions of music within diverse communities.
