About the course
The Bachelor of Medical Science prepares you for a career in a range of laboratory roles, as well as providing an avenue for further study including graduate research programs. This degree will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the basic sciences underpinning human health, wellbeing and its application to human disease. Enrolment in this degree has you selecting from one of three areas as your primary major: Biomedical Science, Human Nutrition or Anatomy and Physiology. The Biomedical Science major focuses on the cellular, molecular and genetic biology aspects of health and disease. The Human Nutrition major uses biology, chemistry and physiology to develop concepts in food and nutrient form and function in relation to human metabolism and physiology, while the Anatomy and Physiology major focuses on the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to health and disease.
Graduates of this program go on to work in a range of settings including medical research laboratories, hospital laboratories and in pathology laboratories. Studying medical science can also lead to positions in the pharmaceutical, medical sales and various research and quality control laboratories. If you’re looking at graduate study options, this degree provides an ideal platform for further research programs as well as medicine and pharmacy programs.
