About the course

Study the Perioperative Practice major in the Bachelor of Health Science. Interested in a career in operating theatre patient care An operation is often an important step along a patients journey in returning to normal life, and you’ll become a key member of a team that cares for patients at a vital time, and really make a difference to their lives. As a graduate of this programme you can apply for registration as an anaesthetic technician with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand. You learn from staff who are anaesthetic technicians, anaesthetists, nurses, midwives and medical specialists. There’s a focus on practical experience with clinical placements in a range of operating theatre specialities to ensure that the Perioperative Practice major prepares you for a successful lifelong career. How to apply

Entry requirements for Auckland University of Technology

Must be capable of meeting Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) requirements and Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA Act) including police clearance.

  IELTS (Academic) 7.0 overall with all bands 6.5 or higher. TOEFL iBT - 100.

  Equivalent to New Zealand Year 13.

  International Baccalaureate (IB) with successful completion of a minimum of 24 points.

  Cambridge International Examination - a minimum of 120 points on the UCAS Tariff* at A or AS level from any subjects which are broadly equivalent to the subjects in the NCEA approved subject list. Must include at least three subjects (excluding Thinking Skills) with grades D or above. Numeracy: A minimum grade of D in International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) mathematics or any mathematics subject at AS or A level. Literacy: A minimum grade of E in English Language and/or English Literature subject at AS or A level.

  General Certificate of Education (GCE) with three A-levels including at least one C gradeor better. A result in General Studies cannot be included among the 3 on which the application is based.
