About the course
In the rapidly changing art and design landscape, Illustration is a key form of visual communication. Illustrators need the ability to think critically and innovatively, and be able to engage diverse audiences in a variety of contexts. Our illustration courses explore varied technical approaches and a broad range of pictorial strategies, while cultivating the ability to collaborate and adapt to diverse opportunities, from contemporary art exhibitions to careers in mass-media.
Here, you?ll master varied technical approaches while learning their critical and conceptual contexts, preparing you for a future career as a professional illustrator. As you develop your unique style as an artist, you?ll learn to create engaging and distinctive images that complement written content or stand alone.
Our program views all forms of illustration, from editorial to narrative, as opportunities for cultural inquiry. Courses are designed to allow for just that. Through hands-on studio work, theory courses, and special topics, you'll have the chance to explore diverse techniques, while learning how to critique, question, and imagine new ways of using illustration to engage with audiences. Entry requirements for Emily Carr University of Art and Design
Educational Transcripts: Physical transcripts of your high school and/or university and college transcripts should be mailed, couriered, or dropped off in person. The minimum academic requirement for admission to Emily Carr University undergraduate programs is graduation from grade12 secondary school, with five grade 12 subjects, including English 12 with a minimum grade of 'C', two other grade 12 academic courses and two grade 12 elective courses. The minimum overall grade point average required for admission is 2.5 or C+ or 67%.International Baccalaureate (IB) -3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level subjects. A minimum requirement of 24 points is recommended to be considered for admission. TOEFL iBT : minimum of 84 out of 120 total points including a minimum score in each of the four skills, Speaking 20/30, Reading 20/30, Writing 18/30, and Listening 20/30.IELTS minimum band 6.5, with no component less than 6.0.
