The Department of Art offers exemplar instruction in the practice, history, and criticism of the visual arts and design, developing skilled and knowledgeable graduates who are prepared to compete for professional positions and engage in entrepreneurial endeavors as artists, designers, fashion merchandisers, interior designers, and art historians.

  Student will learning and have the opportunity to create works using the entirely of the Adobe Creative Cloud platform, Maya, Blender, Cinemia 4D, and more. The curriculum combines the fundamentals of visual arts: drawing, painting, illustration, and two-dimensional and three-dimensional design. Photography and video, with intensive applied computer technology and software techniques as applied to visual communications and design. Coursework is designed to incorporate prerequisite visual arts courses to prepare students to be competitive in the visual arts and computer-aided art and design fields. How to apply

Entry requirements for Howard University

Submit Required Documents: All admission documents must be received before a decision can be rendered. All required documents can be viewed under Domestic Admission or International Admission. Unless otherwise noted, electronic submission (i.e. via Common App, an eTranscript system etc.) of documents is preferred. All non FTIC applicants may submit their transcripts electronically, if the college/university has an e-Transcript system.

  To be admitted into the Department of Art, applicants must present a combined SAT score of 910 and a portfolio containing twelve digital images of original work. (See Portfolio Requirements Below)

  *Art History students may submit copies of graded research papers. Portfolios should be addressed to the Chairperson of the Department of Art and must contain sufficient stamps for return postage.

  In addition, the following items may be considered in determining eligibility for admission:

  - High school grade point average of 2.0 minimum (equivalent to the grade of C)

  - Interview and/or completed questionnaire

  - A written statement of purpose

  - Letters of recommendation

  A score of 90 on the Internet based (IBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Only official reports from ETS will be accepted. Note: in lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
