About the course
Our degree has been developed to meet the needs of industry, offering a pathway to become a licensed surveyor. It is supported and partially funded by the Surveyors Board of South Australia.During your studies, you will develop a strong foundation of civil engineering while gaining advanced knowledge in surveying. Beyond the classroom, you will gain practical skills through field trips, hands-on projects, real-world research and a 12-week industry placement. We offer a wide range of combined degree combinations so you can specialise in two fields and expand your career prospects. The combined degree program enables you to study two undergraduate degrees simultaneously in less time than two single degrees. Pair this degree with another degree in civil engineering and gain a competitive advantage upon graduation. Learn more. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Surveying) uses an industry focused, project-based teaching and learning approach to develop licensed surveyors, who are well prepared to work in diverse, interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems in a socially and culturally appropriate manner.Throughout your degree you will gain access to industry through special guest lectures, real-world research projects and 12 weeks' industry experience. You will have the opportunity to learn by practical example and graduate career-ready.In your first year, you will study core engineering courses. You’ll then move to gain specialised knowledge and skills in surveying, remote sensing, cartography, photogrammetry, business management and much more.At least half of your honours year involves a major project. Projects are generally supported by industry clients, or based in a research centre like our Centre for Water Management & Reuse. In 12 weeks' industry experience, you’ll get to use the knowledge and skills you’ve learned in a work environment.
Career outcomes - :
Graduates may find work with private surveying consultancies, engineers, architects and land developers. Surveyors also liaise with land-owners, service authorities and government bodies on land development.
There is a forecast shortage of surveyors across Australia. This means increased job opportunities for students considering a career in surveying over the next 10 years.
