About the course

This four-year programme, comprising a blend of theoretical and practical work, ensures that you?re career-ready upon graduation. You?ll pursue one of the nine specialisations available at our country?s leading Engineering faculty. We are known also for our passionate, active community. With dedicated support services and student networks to help you with personal or academic issues, we?ll provide you with all the resources necessary for success. Your specialisation, personal interests and chosen electives can impact what you pursue. With quantitative, problem-solving, communication and technical skills, you?ll easily adapt to the technologically-driven nature of many industries. All our specialisations are accredited by Engineering New Zealand, a signatory to the Washington Accord, making our BE(Hons) a recognised engineering qualification in many countries.

A Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering introduces you to the field?s fundamentals: engineering sciences, design teaching and aspects of professional engineering. We also feature a strong emphasis on design and project work, so you can apply your theoretical knowledge to developing new products within team environments. Core topics include: Dynamics and control: from precision positioning of surgical robots to moving autonomous vehicles, this field involves the use of mathematics to model, analyse, predict, control and optimise the behavior of dynamic systems. This is crucial to the next generation of faster, quieter and safer technology. Engineering design: addressing real-world problems with modern tools and knowledge, for example, applying computer-aided design and finite element analysis to open-ended projects.
