You will also study units that establish your understanding of teaching practice, such as educational psychology, Indigenous education and teaching students with diverse learning needs.
As part of the course you will complete four professional work experience placements in schools. These placements are undertaken in full-time blocks, regardless of your study mode. You may have the opportunity to undertake a rural, interstate or overseas placement.
The Health and Physical Education major is a study option within the Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education). It prepares you to teach Australia’s health and physical education curriculum to students in years 7 to 12. You’ll learn teaching strategies and techniques specific to this area, covering the core curriculum areas of personal, social and community health, and movement and physical activity. You’ll gain the practical skills and leadership qualities you need to improve the health, wellbeing and physical literacy of young people, and will be immersed in a technology-enhanced learning environment where collaborative activities develop your teaching capability. This course integrates education theory with classroom practice. You’ll undertake 18 weeks of supervised teaching experience in secondary schools and build a professional digital portfolio that showcases your teaching abilities to potential employers.
